Frightening & Intense Scenes

mild

Certain scenes show girls in noticeable emotional distress The film is set during the first world war, so there are scenes in the trenches showing dead bodies and the sounds of bombs falling. There's also a fairytale narrative in which a very creepy, multi-headed demon kidnaps a woman and is ultimately blasted by lightning (no blood or anything similar). There are multiple scenes where the subservience of the African American girl is amplified for the storyline. The main character is also placed in a similar subservient role later on. Subtly addresses race and class disparities. No physical violence, only emotional abuse. Certain scenes may cause distress to children (especially children of color). One scene shows Sara attempting to escape Minchin's school by climbing a single board to the nearby building where Ram-Dass resides.
